Eu-funding research project

The business area of Hoopmann includes the development and production of special machines and systems. Each system is individually manufactured at the customer’s request. Up to now, we have mainly been active in the field of automation for customers in the automotive industry.

We would like to engage in a new market with the development of a flexible and modular manufacturing cell for woodworking. The flexible and modular production cell is designed to allow the customer to equip a basic module and additional modules as required.
The basic module is designed to enable customers to perform simple but fully automated sawing, drilling and milling operations. Building on this basic module, the system can be expanded to a robot-assisted manufacturing cell. An essential aspect is that the customer – in contrast to conventionally manufactured systems – can initially purchase the basic module with a small budget and that all further modules that are required can be subsequently integrated into this basic module.
Many small and medium-sized carpentry shops cannot economically use the fully automatic production machines already available on the market. With our flexible and modular concept, we would like to make it possible for small and medium-sized carpentry shops to implement partially automated manufacturing processes. Our manufacturing cell should grow with the company.

The business field of the Hoopmann company includes the development and production of special machines and equipment. Each manufactured machine is individually manufactured according to customer requirements.
One of the products of the Hoopmann company is a low-level transport vehicle. With the low-level transport vehicle small loads can be moved.
At present the low-level vehicle is equipped with special functions on customer request. The Hoopmann company is able to stand out from its competitors by the special superstructures.
In many applications, however, a low-cost variant of the low-level transport vehicle would be advantageous. During the development, savings should be specifically sought.
It is not the goal to build a fast or heavy-duty vehicle, but to replace the performance by a variety of low-cost vehicles.
This new innovative approach makes it possible to use low-floor transport vehicles in many areas.
Nowadays, many goods are transported to the production stations by means of a forklift truck. The personnel deployment is far too high for this “unproductive” activity in a modern manufacturing environment.
The driverless transport systems ( low-level transport vehicles ) allow a flexible material supply, which is controlled from a control center.

Eu-funding research project

The business area of Hoopmann includes the development and production of special machines and systems. Each manufactured system is custom-made on customer request. As a rule, six-axis articulated arm robots are used for automatic assembly or removal of materials/components. The placement of the systems by a robot is no problem with simple geometries. The placement becomes difficult when the robot has to react flexibly to the tasks assigned to it. In the application described here, the robot is supposed to force-sensitively press a “plastic dowel”. The sensitive component must not be damaged. So far, this work has been taken over by Werkern. With a little practice and human adaptability to the situation, it is no problem for the worker to carry out the required activity. However, the hand muscles are heavily stressed during the execution of the activity. Therefore, appropriate mechanical auxiliary devices are provided to the operator. However, this results in an increased time.
The aim of the project is to develop a force-sensitive robot or robot arm that enables full or partial automation of the activity. A collaboration between a force-sensitive, collaborating robot and a worker is also conceivable.
